IT 398/599 Topics in Global IT -- CDM Japan 2011
Assignment #2
(due: 10/28 (Fri) Presentation; 11/1 (Tue) Paper)
Overview:
For this assignment, you will write a group research paper with other
members in your group, on the topic of your group.
- Each group writes a/one paper on the topic. The report will
be a
compilation of sections written by all members in the team. Papers are
due at the due of 11/1 (Tuesday).
- Each team makes a 15 minute presentation on the topic as well
as the result of research in
the 3rd pre-trip meeting (on 10/28 Friday).
Specifics:
- Groups have been formed based on the general topics. Each group should
elaborate the topic by focusing on specific aspects/subtopics.
- The group paper must be coherent as a whole -- the report should start with an
introduction, and sections should be organized to follow the flow of the context.
- Every member does his/her research and writes at least 2
pages worth of text text (without counting figures). So the
minimum total length of the paper depends on the number of members -- #
of members x 2.
- The group paper must CLEARLY indicate which section/part was
written by which member. It can be done by inserting the
author name before each part, or have a separate page at the end of the
paper (as an appendix)
which lists who wrote which section.
- Everyone in a group submits the same, final group paper on COL.
- During the 10/28 pre-trip session, all groups present their paper -- the
topic in general and the specific foci which the group chose, and the
research results and conclusions the group found and reached.
- A group presentation must be made by all members in the group -- each
member presents the part(s) he/she wrote in the group paper.
Paper specification is the same from Assignment #1 (Individual Paper), which
was:
Paper specifications: All documents in this assignment must be written single spaced and
using a maximum of 12-point font (of any typeface). Page margins should be
more more than 1 inch all the way around (i.e., top/bottom/left/right).
The number of pages for each step/document is as follows. These are
minimum. The also refer to how much "text" your paper has. So, this does not include the cover/title page
(if you put one) or the space in the body of the paper which is taken by figures, references or other non-body texts.
Grading:
Individual part of paper = 50%
Presentation = 25% (group score, everyone gets the same)
Group score = 25% (group score, everybody gets the same)
For the Presentation, everyone is required to participate. Answering
questions at the end of the presentation counts as presentation. (So one person
could not talk during the presentation but answer all the questions.)
For the Group score, the criterion is coherence -- how well does the entire
paper "hang together"?
Submission:
All submissions should be done on COL
as usual. To re-iterate, everyone in a group submits the same, final group
paper on COL.
